The aim of this course is to study the cross-cultural linkage between Japanese culture and its outer world.
 After the Meiji Restoration western cultures have had much influence on Japan, and the vice versa. Significant ideas from the both sides are presented.
 The early stage of Japanese culture had closely related to the eastern, especially China. Concerning history and insight of the related issues will be discussed in the class.
 Basic ideas in terms of cross-cultural issues are also the topics of our study.
 Essay writing and presentation skills in English should be the outcomes of the course.
